Samsung Galaxy Z Flip
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip

  • The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 may be the company’s next foldable handset, but its release is unlikely to be soon –
  • Samsung’s Galaxy S21 launch on January 14 didn’t include any foldable, and the company would definitely want to give its recent flagships some time in the spotlight before releasing its next folding product.
  • However, it’s been over a year since the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip was released, so the successor might not be far behind.
  • That was the first clamshell-style folding gadget from the company, and this will be the second.
  • So why isn’t the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 2 included in this article? We’ve learned it won’t be called that, and we’ll explain why in a later segment.
  • So, how much do we know about Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 3? It isn’t much right now, but that could change quickly – the original Galaxy Z Flip was released in February 2020,
  • so the Z Flip 3 could be on the way, despite what many reports say.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 expected release date and the price

  • Since the first model was released over a year ago, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 could arrive soon, as described in the introduction to this article.
  • Of course, it may not be the case, and we may see a launch later this year. Many reports indicate that Flip’s replacement will arrive in late 2021.
  • We’ve recently learned (as of early February) that it does not arrive for five months, i.e. in or near July.
  • We’ve now heard it from another source, who claims that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the next Galaxy Z Flip will be released at the same time in July 2021.
  • Worryingly, it’s not mentioned at all in a leaked Samsung launch roadmap, which continues through late August but appears to be incomplete.
  • We’d expect it to arrive by then, particularly after the Samsung Galaxy Note 21 is expected to be canceled, leaving the company with fewer high-end phones this year than usual.
  • However, we’ve learned that it might run a new version of Samsung’s One UI, which wouldn’t arrive until the second half of the year, so don’t hold your breath.
  • The price is expected to be close to that of the original Galaxy Z Flip, which retailed for $1,380 / £1,300 / AU$1,800.
  • Hopefully, the firm has figured out a way to get the price down, because that’s a lot of money for a smartphone.

What will be the name

  • You’d think that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip’s successor will be the Galaxy Z Flip 2… right?
  • In practice, that might not be the case, as the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is rumored to be the next handset.
  • This information comes from the Dutch website GalaxyClub, which has a shaky track record when it comes to presenting reliable information.
  • The explanation for the name change seems to be that the 5G iteration of the Galaxy Z Flip was called the ‘Flip 2’, so this current one is called the ‘Flip 3’.
  • Furthermore, according to GalaxyClub, the company is doing so to get the Flip line up to par with the Fold line’s numbers, with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 being the next update.

News and gossip about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip

  • You may have seen some Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 renders floating around, but don’t be fooled – they’re not official.
  • LetsGoDigital created them instead, based on specifications and image leaks, in order to get a good idea of what the foldable phone would look like.
  • According to a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 2 leak, the device will have a 3-inch screen on the outside and a 6.7-inch screen when opened up.
  • While the main screen is the same size as the initial Flip, the cover screen on that phone was just 1.1 inches, so we could see a significant difference in that area.
  • The Z Flip 2 would reportedly have a larger battery than the initial Flip’s 3,300mAh battery, according to this and other leaks. The new size, however, is not a bet.
  • Backing up the notion of longevity is the fact that Samsung has registered the trademark ‘Armor Frame’.
  • The filing isn’t specific, but it’s likely that the Z Flip 3 would have a much more durable material around the edges.
